Tube Düsseldorf 2012 – the biggest and best to date
New-look stand for ITA
The ITA participated at Tube 2012 with an imposing new-
look stand in hall 4, providing a comprehensive range of
support services for ITA members and their guests. Advice
on technical matters as well as information about ITA events
and the ITA’s unique range of membership benefits was
provided by the new executive secretary Peter Byroslawsky
and attending board members Steve Loynes and Andy
Houghton. Peter and the staff were capably supported by
Nataliya Koryaka from the ITA’s representative office for
Russia, Ukraine and CIS countries, together with stand
personnel Michelle Loetz, Martina Klein and Victoria Ott.
Over the five days more than 100 new enquiries were
obtained and nearly 20 new members signed up with more
sure to follow as a result of visits to the stand.
Tube 2012 exhibition reported increases in both exhibit floor
space (+ 9.4 per cent), occupying nearly 49,000 square
metres, and in visitor numbers (+ 6.3 per cent for wire and
Tube combined). Notable exhibitor numbers and exhibit
space increases by country were seen from China, Italy,
Spain, Turkey and Germany. The enduring success of Tube
Düsseldorf is a testament to the excellent organisation of
the exhibition’s project director Mr Friedrich Kehrer and
his team at Messe Düsseldorf. The ITA has been a proud
industry partner for Tube Düsseldorf since the mid 1990s.
ITA Celebrations at Tube 2012
In addition to exhibiting at Tube 2012 the ITA fulfilled other
important commitments in this most important week for
the industry. The annual meeting of the ITA’s International
Executive Management Board (IEMB) took place on the
eve of the exhibition at which a number of important stra-
tegic decisions were reached including the choice of St
Petersburg, Russia as the venue for the next biennial con-
ference in 2013. On Wednesday 28 March the ITA’s annual
general meeting was held in the Congress Centre at which
important elections to the IEMB were held (see page 6).
Following the completion of the formalities of the meeting
and before ITA members and VIP guests enjoyed a free
buffet lunch, there were a number of presentations made.
Chairman of the Technical Management Committee Steve
Loynes presented speaker awards for the best papers
given at ITA conferences over the previous two years (see
report on page 13).
Since the death of ITA founder John Hogg in 2004 the
ITA has commemorated his importance by creating the
‘John C Hogg Lifetime Achievement Award’, which is
presented every two years to an individual who has made
a significant contribution to the success of the association.
The 2012 award was presented by ITA president Gunther
Voswinckel to Tsutomu Nakata, current ITA chairman, for
his support for the association over many years. In addition
to a commemorative gift Mr Nakata received free lifetime
membership of the
ITA.
A special presentation was made by Joachim Schaefer,
managing director of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, to retired ITA
executive secretary Phillip Knight for his close collaboration
with the company over a ten-year period, which saw the
development of important exhibitions supported by the
ITA in China, Russia,
India, Thailand, Brazil
and the UAE.
