ITA speaker award winners at Tube Düsseldorf 2012
Every two years during Tube Düsseldorf the ITA recognises
the important contribution that is made by speakers at its
technical conferences held since the previous exhibition.
The prestigious Professor Hugh Sansome Trophy, named
after a founder member of the ITA and long-time chairman
of the Technical Management Committee (TMC), is
presented to the speaker considered by the Papers Awards
Committee to have delivered the outstanding paper during
the two year period.
The Speaker’s Shield is awarded to the runner up as
decided by the committee. The chairman of the TMC and
the Awards Committee, Stephen Loynes, presented the
trophies at the ITA’s members’ lunch on 28 March during
Tube Düsseldorf. His remarks are reproduced below:
“I am very pleased to tell you that 2011 was a very
successful year for ITA conferences. The joint symposium
with the Japanese Society for Plasticity in Osaka was a big
success with a good number of serious technology papers.
Our European conference in the Düsseldorf Congress
Centre was also successful with a full conference hall.
We will, I’ve no doubt, be coming back to Düsseldorf. The
ITA is planning its next biennial conference in 2013 in St
Petersburg.
This year we are looking forward to the joint conference
in June with the TPA in Nashville, USA. The ITA is also
organising a one-day conference at the end of October in
Mumbai before the Tube India exhibition.
It is very important that we explain the latest technology at
our conferences. Please come forward with your papers.
We promise to give a good balance of papers including
industry overviews and commercial understanding of the
tube industry.
I am very pleased to tell you that this year we are presenting
awards to the young generation of technologists. This
year the Professor Hugh
Sansome trophy goes
to Fabio Lacapruccia.
Fabio works for Danieli
Centro Tubi as a sales
manager. His winning
paper was presented in
2011 at our conference
here in Düsseldorf:
‘Four roll technology –
new boundaries for hot
rolling OD finishing’.
He
showed how they used
simulation improving
the mill performance
and thus improve
productivity and cost.
The Speaker’s Shield
is given to encourage
academic study in
tube and roll forming
technology. The prize
was given to Matthias
Hermes. He works
at the Institute of
Forming Technology
and
Lightweight
Construction, Germany.
His paper was entitled:
‘New flexible tube forming processes
– tool independent forming of tubes to complex workpieces
with workpiece-invariant tools’.
This was also presented at
the Düsseldorf conference.”
Anyone wishing to obtain copies of the papers presented at
the Pipe & Tube World Conference 2011 in Dusseldorf can
order the proceedings CD-Rom from the ITA Secretariat.
Fabio Lacapruccia’s award winning paper can be found on
page 24 of this copy of ITAN.
