Kent Corporation awarded orders for two
heavy gauge strip accumulators
Kent Corporation has received two
orders for horizontal roller style
accumulators. These accumulators are
being shipped to US customers making
API grade pipe and hollow structural
sections (HSS) tubing.
Both accumulators can run tube
diameters up to 407mm and wall
thicknesses up to 15.9mm, and yield
strengths up to 827 MPa.
By adding accumulators to existing
process lines, productivity increases
dramatically owing to the elimination of
mill stoppages due to coil changes.
Kent Corporation has been providing
quality coil handling equipment to the
tube mill, roll forming and stamping
industry for more than 40 years. The
company has delivered over 2,000
pieces of equipment that are currently
running successfully, with steel strip
applications that vary from 0.3 to
19mm thick, and from strip widths of
3.2mm to over 2,032mm wide.
Kent Corporation also recently opened
an office in Monterrey, Mexico,
named Piecsa, to provide sales and
service support of new and used Kent
equipment to the Mexico market.
Piecsa will also manufacture high
frequency work coils and ferrite
impeders, providing a higher quality
and more competitive consumable
product.
In addition, Piecsa will distribute
the complete line of Kent tube mill
consumable
products,
including
tube de-burring brushes, ID and OD
scarfing tools, cut-off shears, ferrite,
impeder casings and circular sawing
blades.

Large field scanners for high-precision
diameter control
Zumbach Electronic, Switzerland,
has extended its range of ODAC
®
laser scanners for non-contact inline
diameter measurement for large size
solutions. With the ODAC 550 it is
now possible to measure large steel
bars, tubes and rolls up to 500mm or
more at accuracies of a few metric
microns and rates of up to 2,000
measurements/s. Other materials,
such as titanium, brass, alloys and
plastic, work as well.
This was made possible by the devel-
opment of a revolutionary
optical scanning technique with
a highly parallel and seamless
measuring field (no dead zone).
The technology also allows
mounting emitter and receiver
far apart from each other,
depending on the available
space conditions. Typical processes
where the system offers new solutions
are peeling, grinding, polishing and
straightening, as well as in quality
control lines (NDT).
The dimensional data for diameter,
ovality, etc, can be fed directly to the
user’s network or displayed in real-time
for the operator by USYS processors,
and also for feedback to the machine.
Complete accessories like secondary
protection enclosures, cooling devices,
air purging and air knives are available
for heavy-duty environments.
