Fives Bronx installs
complete Abbey
ERW pipe mill
Fives Bronx, the supplier of Bronx/
Taylor-Wilson and Abbey pipe mill
equipment solutions, has installed a
complete pipe mill line at Boomerang
Tube LLC in Liberty, Texas, USA. This
line produces OCTG 2

" X42 to X80 API Grade.
The Abbey tube mill produces API
5CT tubing and casing up to J55, K55,
and welded shells for N80, with an
OD range of 60.3 to 142.9mm (2.475"
to 5.625"), and a wall range of 3 to
11.1mm (0.12" to 0.437"). The mill is
quick change capable and includes a
high performance carbide rotary cut-off.
Also included within this line is Bronx/
Taylor-Wilson pipe finishing equipment
that includes three pipe
straighteners and a high
pressure hydrostatic pipe
tester.
The Bronx series 6CR10
straightener and hydrostatic
pipe tester is integrated as
part of the heat treatment
OCTG line. The product diameter
ranges from 114.3 to 244.5mm for
pressures up to 15,000 psi. The tester
design load is 727,598 pounds.
The pre-finishing line also has another
Bronx series 6CR10 straightening
machine for processing line pipe up to
244.5mm. In-line with the Abbey Mill is
a Bronx series 6CR6 straightener that
processes at mill speeds.
As Boomerang continues to expand
it is currently in the installation phase
of a new 6CR10 machine. This
straightener is the fourth Bronx/Taylor-
Wilson machine at the Boomerang
facility.

Mair supplies integrated
API finishing line
Mair Research SpA has supplied
to Tuper, Brazil, an integrated API
finishing line suitable for processing
340mm tubing.
The
line
has
been
recently
commissioned and API certified. It
is connected in line with the mill and
composed of tube cut-off sampling,
ID flushout and bead chopping,
chamfering,
hydrotesting
(two
machines in parallel: one triple head
up to 8" and one for over 8" and up
to 340mm), ultrasonic testing, WMS,
coating, packaging and strapping.
A software system keeps track of
information connected to the individual
operations and is interfaced with the
supplier’s server.
Mair has also supplied to the same
customer a 20-ton cold draw bench
suitable for drawing three tubes at
a time, and an off-line chamfering
machine and triple tube hydrotester for
5" tubes.
