Past, Present & Future – 30 years of the International Tube Association
13
Having come into existence as a result of a tube
conference in 1978 the ITA naturally places great
emphasis on what it sees as one of its key roles of
encouraging technical excellence, development,
exchange and education in the industry.
This has been accomplished through a worldwide
programme of forty seven technical conferences,
symposiums and seminars between 1979 and the end
of 2008. Almost all of these events have been organised
solely by the ITA.
Many of these events have presented ground breaking
technology or have introduced tried and tested
developments to new audiences in emerging markets.
As a result the Association has compiled an impressive
back catalogue of technical papers, which are available
to all and are a valuable resource for the industry.
Apart from individual papers from all of these forty
seven conferences, CD-ROMs of all papers from most
of the ITA’s recent conferences can be obtained.
To encourage further technical excellence the ITA
instituted its biennial‘President’sTrophy’award in 1981.
This award is presented at every Tube Düsseldorf to the
author or authors of what is considered by the Awards
Committee to be the best technical paper presented at
ITA conferences in the preceding two years.
In the ITA’s formative years the late Professor Hugh
Sansome played a vital role in the establishment of
the Technical Management Committee (originally the
