ITAtube Journal No2/September 2013
Companies
Roll-Kraft has again expanded
its production equipment list to
include a new hydraulic cylindri-
cal grinder. The machine will be
installed at the corporate head-
quarters in Mentor, OH. within the
coming weeks. It will be used to
perform several grinding functions
leading to the final much-sought-
after smooth finish to roll tooling
manufactured by Roll-Kraft and
supplied to the tube & pipe and roll
forming industries.
Roll-Kraft utilizes many process-
es to produce its tooling. One of
the most effective technical ser-
vices offered is the design of tool-
ing using FEA Copra software. This
virtual simulation software is used
to identify problem areas so de-
sign changes can take place before
manufacturing begins. This leads
to the production of high-quality
tooling, manufactured and careful-
ly tested precisely to the custom-
er’s specific application.

in tooling production
A new hydraulic cylindrical grinder is on its way to Roll-Kraft
Roll-Kraft recently conducted a re-
gional tube and pipe training sem-
inar in Ontario, Canada. The pro-
gram had outstanding attendance
from over a dozen tube and pipe
mill companies throughout Canada
and from the United States.
The itinerary included new tube
and pipe training techniques for
2013 which covered key areas of:
• Mill Integrity and Alignment
• Roll Design (including considera-
tions for stainless steel)
• Proper Tube and Pipe Mill Setup
• Copra FEA RF Software – FEA Fi-
nite Element Analysis
• Tooling Maintenance Programs
Keynote speakers for the event
were Robert A. Sladky, Vice Pres-
ident Tube Mill Engineering, and
Bret Molnar, Senior Technical Ad-
visor for Roll-Kraft. The event also
hosted a tour of Roll-Kraft’s Cana-
dian plant in Woodbridge, Ontario.
Sladky noted that the audience was
a good mix of personnel and experi-
ence, which included owners, pres-
idents, supervisors, mill operators,
maintenance, tool room personnel,
and quality departments. Experi-
ence levels ranged from those with
decades of experience to those who
had literally only days on the job.
Molnar commented that the feed-
back from the audience was out-
standing throughout the entire
day, even at the break and lunch
times, with a thirst for even more
information on tooling design for
exotic materials beyond stainless
and titanium.
Roll-Kraft’s next regional seminars
will take place in August in Men-
tor, OH at the LaMalfa Holiday Inn.
Each event will be preceded by a
tour of Roll-Kraft’s headquarters.
Besides the regional seminars Roll-
Kraft sponsors in various locations,
95% of all tube and pipe training
and roll forming training is done at
the customer’s location, with their
personnel, on their mills. Learn
more about on-site tube and pipe
and roll forming training at Roll-
Kraft’s website.
